KP Constable Syllabus 2026

Kolkata Police Constable Recruitment Examination

Eligibility Passed Madhyamik Examination (Class 10) of WBBSE or equivalent; speak, read, and write Bengali/Nepali language
Age Limit 18 to 30 years (relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/Civic Volunteers of WB)
Exam Pattern Preliminary Written Test & Final Written Exam
The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board conducts this exam to hire constables in the Kolkata Police department. The selection process has a Preliminary written test, physical measurement and efficiency tests, a Final written exam, and an interview. The written syllabus covers General Awareness, Mathematics, Reasoning, and English. General Awareness and local geography questions carry significant weightage. Preliminary Written Test

MCQ | 100 Questions | 100 Marks | 1 Hour | +1 mark for correct, -0.25 (1/4th) for incorrect. Prelims is screening test, marks not counted for final merit.

General Awareness and GK 40 Marks

  • History: Ancient, medieval and modern Indian history
  • Geography: Rivers, boundaries, soils, topography of WB and India
  • Polity: Indian Constitution, Parliament, Judiciary
  • Science: Basic concepts in Physics, Chemistry, Life Science
  • Sports: Tournaments, rules, awards; National & International Awards
  • Current Affairs: National, international, and regional events

Elementary Mathematics 30 Marks

  • Number System, Decimals, Fractions, Indices
  • Simplification, LCM, and HCF
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Percentage, Profit, Loss, and Discount
  • Simple Interest and Average
  • Time and Work, Time and Distance

Reasoning 30 Marks

  • Coding and Decoding
  • Series: Number, Letter, and Symbol series
  • Blood Relations and family trees
  • Direction Sense Test
  • Analogy, classification, and odd-one-out

Final Written Exam

MCQ | 85 Questions | 85 Marks | 1 Hour | +1 mark for correct, -0.25 (1/4th) for incorrect. Determines final merit list combined with Interview (15 Marks).

General Awareness and GK 25 Marks

  • History: Indian National Movement and Freedom Struggle
  • Geography: Resources, minerals, agriculture of India and WB
  • Polity & Economy: Constitution basics, Indian banking, monetary policies
  • Science & Environment: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecological safety
  • Static GK: Books, authors, dances, monuments, key sports news
  • Current Events of National and International significance

Elementary Mathematics 25 Marks

  • Arithmetic: Simplification, Decimals, Fractions, HCF, LCM
  • Percentage, Profit, Loss, and Discount
  • Simple Interest and Partnership Business
  • Average, Ratio, and Proportion
  • Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance
  • Mensuration: Areas, Perimeters, Volumes of solids

Reasoning 25 Marks

  • Verbal Reasoning: Analogies, classification, coding-decoding
  • Blood relations, direction sense, sitting arrangements
  • Venn Diagrams and basic logical deductions
  • Non-verbal Reasoning: Figure patterns, paper cutting, mirrors

English 10 Marks

  • Correct use of Articles and Prepositions
  • Tense, Subject-Verb Agreement, Voice and Narration basics
  • Vocabulary: Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Idioms and Phrases, One-word substitution
